Headwaters of the Mighty M

This is another painting of the headquarters of the Mississippi River. My Step - son and his Dad took a trip up there last year.  I have taken some liberties with the trees about the water, so don't look to closely at the bush, if you ever visit this place.

Rosewood Flood - an abstract of grief

This abstract was painted when my wife and I were staying in a rental property at Rosewood (Queensland - Australia), as our house at the time was being renovated from the flood damage of 2011.

This was one of only a couple of abstracts I painted at that time.

Momma Dragon and Baby

Here is my second last dragon painting that I am currently showing. I have had lots of fun with my dragons in the last month or so, and now it is almost time to commence on another theme of artwork.

Melting Snow - three poems in one.

Shane Sells and I tried something different in the way of writing.  I often talk to Shane via Skype and I suggested that we pick a topic (for a poem), and we would write alternate lines.  The topic was picked and away we wrote some twenty odd lines of poetry.

Here is the poem.

Melting Snow by Paul Howlett and Shane Sells (original)

SPRING IS ON THE BREEZE

LAST OF WINTER'S FREEZE

COMING SOON THE GRASS

FUN TO MOW

TOO SHORT TO HOE

HEY NO MORE SNOW

MOIST GROUND APPEARS

BASEMENTS ARE FLOODED

BROWN ALL AROUND

LOTS OF BARE GROUND

NO BUDDING YET

BIRDS TWEET IN THE TREES

THINKING OF THE BUMBLE BEES

GETTING DOWN ON MY KNEES

SO THANKFUL FOR MORE SUN

TREES SOON IN BLOOM

TIME TO LEAVE THIS STUFFY ROOM

GET SOME FRESH AIR

WHILE THE WEATHER IS FAIR

LOTS OF WALKS IN THE PARK

NO MORE COLD & DARK

WATCH OUT FOR THE DOGS THAT BARK

THE SNOW HAS LEFT WITHOUT A MARK

#######

Then I used the old David Bowie “paper and scissors” method of cutting up the poem and rearranging the lines to see if another edit or version would look.  I subsequently rearranged the original into two successive edits.  I like the result and so does Shane.

The Poetry Competition - a poem about poetry

The Poetry Competition

By Paul Howlett

The International Poetry Competition

Asking for entries to win

Many Oh many poems to send

But wait, the prizes are small

For such pricey admission

You’d think that the prize

Would be great

Look at the cost of entering

Look at the size of the prize

Without even posting a poem

You’ve way ahead and wise

Profit goes to the people

Who run the damn thing

Not the poor poets of note

Baring their souls to the world

Spending their hard earned money

For a chance to win

What a joke.

Big Bite - artwork with teeth

This artwork was one of my 'test' paintings for drawing and painting dragons, so this artwork is just mainly teeth!

SCUBA DIVING - a poem about sharks

Scuba Diving

by Paul Howlett

Scuba diving just for fun

Deep in the ocean

Down in the deep

Lots to look at

Without giving you the creeps

Sharks come to visit

Sting rays and all

Lots of critters

Just having a ball

Are you worried?

Does that shark have a bite?

Lots of nasty teeth showing

 But don’t die of fright

The shark is just looking

You’re too big to eat

Blowing lots of bubbles

Making lots of noise and all

The shark I am sure

Is more a lot more appalled

At your size and manner

The noise of your regulator

Sure sounds like a siren

To the ear of the shark

Give them warning

Not to mess with the human

Make scuba diving fun

Enjoyment and pleasure

For one and for all.

Snake Bite - a Fang Full Artwork

This artwork originally started out as a dragon but morphed into a venomous snake with bite!!
