The Night - a poem about pain

The Night By Paul Howlett

Late at night

Feeling the darkness

Feeling the pain

 Bed sheets soaked in sweat

What is wrong

what is right

Was it food

I thought in fright

I worked hard today

Maybe a ripped tendon

Muscle of course

No said the guts

And proceed to roar

The agony total

No help from a pill

Emergency phone call

Ambulance please

What a relief

To be given morphine.

  1. I was taken to hospital for the first time (in my life) by an ambulance. Time was about 4 am, and I was so glad to get to Emergency, and spent about 5 or so days in hospital with drips running 24 hours a day throughout my body. I am ok now, but will require some keyhole surgery later this year.
